Finally… Oh Wait, We Lost… Again

But the bats did finally come alive. It only took them 7 games.

We lost yet again. And I should be upset but I’m not. I have been a terrible person to everyone the past few days and it is def because the Cubs have not been playing well. But tonight they scored 8 runs!! And we probably would have won if Ryan Dempster had been pitching like he normally does, ya know, 6 innings with only a couple earned runs. But unfortunately for us (& the gatorade machine) Dempster didn’t have his good stuff and he didn’t pitch well. He gave up 6 earned runs tonight.

To continue on the pitching note, let me state: I hate out bullpen. I may have said it before but I would like to say it again. Something needs to be done. I hope Jim is out there looking for trades. I think it should be our #1 priority before the trade deadline. Cotts blows, that hasn’t changed. Heilman is still terrible, again, nothings changed there. Thankfully Patton came out and pitched well for not having pitched in a game in 2 weeks. Oh, and Ascanio did well too.

Our bats are back! Let’s hope they are here to stay.

Theriot.jpg

Ryan Theriot! Oh how I do love Ryan Theriot. <3 He may have went 2 for 24 on the road trip but he will always be my guy. He went 3 for 5 tonight with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs!

Bradley went 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs! Soto and Freel both had RBIs. It was a good night for Cubs offense. First in a long while.

Hahaha, and Ted Lilly! Got ejected from a game he wasn’t even playing in! Let’s face it, that ump was sooooo inconsistent. He was terrible (for the record, I hate MOST if not ALL umpires). And when Ted Lilly said something from the dugout he was ejected! I <3 Ted Lilly.

I think umps should have to take a test or something (maybe they do, I don’t know). Where a committee has to watch them call balls and strike in a simulated game and then their fate should be decided that way. Because some of these umpires are just terrible.

mrtstretch.JPG
Mr. T is my hero. He sang the 7th
inning stretch today. It was hysterical. He more of shouted it to
everyone rather than singing it. When there’s a good video of it, I’ll get it up.

Major Pain

UGH. WTF. I can’t even talk about it I’m so frustrated. It’s annoying. Are they trying? Do they care as much as I do? Maybe I’m over reacting. I am.

It’s still early. Even though every game is important.

The past week for me has been pretty rough. I’ve been dealing with some personal issues. The Cubs aren’t helping. Baseball is something I’ve always looked forward to but now I can’t even watch the full game b/c it’s so frustrating!

I’m a Cubs fan and I’m used to disappointment but not piled on top of all the personal stuff I’m dealing with.

Go Cubs!
please stop skidding out of control

Seriously?

Quick note: follow me on twitter. cubsjunkie

funny-lolcat-srsly.jpg

Offense? What’s that? Oh, you need that to win a game? Pshhh, who knew?

Pathetic. Ouch, kinda harsh. But I have a nice temper and I’m very critical. Why were the guys so impatient? They kept swinging at the first pitch or the second pitch. No one was taking deep counts. Pineiro only threw 92 pitches over 9 innings… 92 freaking pitches. A 3 hit complete game shut out… nice guys, really nice.

I’m too flustered to talk about it… I need to go clean something.

GO CUBS!

Aren’t Walkoffs the Greatest?!

Unfortunatly I didn’t get to watch the game today. It was my little sister’s birthday so we went to chuck e cheese. But believe me, I had the phone on gameday.

little courtney.JPG
That’s my sister! <3

So Wells pitched great! Second outing and the guys just can’t get him a W. He went 6 innings with 4 hits and 4 strikeouts. What’s a guy gatta do?! I think we should keep him in the rotation when Z gets back. Marshall will be nice in the bullpen.

Kevin Gregg.. PSH. I can’t stand this guy. I really can’t. I don’t know if other Cubs fans feel the same but blow a four run lead in the ninth? No, that’s not what a closer is supposed to do. Then they put in Heilman who is not perfect and has no room for error inheriting bases loaded with no outs. I almost questioned my faith… almost.

no kevin gregg.png

And just after I commenting on Jane’s blog about the beauty of a walkoff.. we have one. Our offense didn’t cross the plate until the sixth but Fons got the job done with Scales on and a single to right field.

CSN’s poll question today was “Who do you want to be the Cubs everyday third baseman with Aramis out?” And my answer is Bobby Scales. I like this guy. I think he’s good offensivly and he gets the job done. Thumbs up to Bobby Scales.

That was a quickie ;) but I have to go sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and get my ankle checked out. There is some suspicious brusing and swelling that I def didn’t notice until last night when my ankle was screaming in pain.

until tomorrow,
GO CUBS!!

And PS – my buddy Brenton looked up the article about Ryan Theriot in the Sun. The guy is very sarcastic about associating Riot with roids but really? Must we connect the two? That’s spoiling Ryan Theriot’s good name. Shame on you journalist. I’m sure your feeling the heat for it.

Outrage!

WOW. This is ridiculous:

Theriot laughs off headline’s insinuation

Shortstop’s recent power surge fodder for column hook

CHICAGO — Ryan Theriot owes his power surge to a change in his approach at the plate, the shortstop said, not performance-enhancing drugs, which was implied by a headline in a Chicago newspaper Friday.

Theriot said he laughed when he saw the headline: “Small hitter, big problem: When even Theriot raises suspicions, baseball’s earned cynicism.”

“It’s just comical,” Theriot said.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella was upset by what the headline and column implied.

“Isn’t that crazy?” Piniella said. “When the wind is blowing out at Wrigley and you can show some bat speed and get the ball up in the pull field, you’re going to get rewarded.

“The biggest problem with the steroid thing is not the fact that people took steroids, it’s that the people who haven’t get tainted along with everybody else,” Piniella said. “This is why truthfully, when they named Alex [Rodriguez] it’s unfair. They should’ve named all 103 [players who tested positive]. Look, if I were clean, I’d want to let people know I was clean so if I hit a few home runs, people don’t look at me and say, ‘Is this guy Popeye or what?’”

Theriot, whose previous high for homers in a season was three and who hit only one last season in 149 games, has belted five in the Cubs’ first 33 games, including his first career grand slam.

“I guess everybody is entitled to their own opinion,” Theriot said. “It’s unfortunate that it’s come to this. I guess you can write whatever you want to write and it’s up to the readers to formulate their own opinion.”

Theriot said he even stopped drinking protein shakes in 2005. Now he relies on an occasional ice cream drumstick.

“Coming up through high school and the time I was in college, supplements were a huge part of our workout regime,” Theriot said. “Companies would sponsor your school, and you would get free supplements. For me, the risk-reward was never worth it, to even take a chance on a protein shake. My supplements the last four, five years have been Gatorade and water.”

Piniella talked to Theriot in late April when the team was in St. Louis about trying to pull the ball more.

“The last time I checked, I was a professional athlete and an everyday player who has put up some decent numbers,” Theriot said. “I guess anybody can do anything if you set your mind to it. I’ve always been under that belief. I feel I could go out there and pitch if I wanted to. A few homers here and there — you have to remember it’s only a few. It’s not like I’ve got 30.”

All of Theriot’s 12 career home runs have come at Wrigley Field.

“I asked him in St. Louis earlier in the year to not think of right field exclusively — drive the ball,” Piniella said. “You’re capable of driving the ball to left-center, right-center. I think it’s absurd to think anything else.

“Truthfully, not anybody, but mostly anybody in the big leagues is capable of hitting 10 or 12 home runs,” Piniella said.

Theriot lead the National League in singles last season. He’s not about to be confused with Albert Pujols, but it’s been nice to have his name side by side with the big sluggers.

“Albert’s the best player in the game, and Adam Dunn hits a bunch of bombs,” Theriot said. “It’s good to be associated with those fellows. It’s very gratifying for me to be up there in another category other than average and hits and singles, which is not really a category.”

The article’s target is baseball and the steroid issue, and it uses Theriot as an example, because the 5-foot-11 shortstop is not your typical home run hitter.

“Once you get into the article and read the article — and I have read it a few times — you realize the point is a valid point,” Theriot said. “It’s more what the game has come to. The headline could’ve been written a little differently. When you read something like that, it associates you with something you don’t want to be associated with.

“Me, personally, I have pride in myself throughout my life on my reputation both on and off the field, and it’s something that means a lot to me,” Theriot said. “I feel like I’ve lived my life right from Day 1. Hopefully, that will overcome a headline like that. It’s tough when others make mistakes and you get dragged into it.”

Piniella said the biggest problem with performance-enhancing drugs is that players who are clean are unfairly linked to using illegal substances.

“It’s unfair to any player, it really is,” Piniella said. “If somebody has a particularly good week hitting the ball out of the ballpark or whatever, it’s, ‘Wait a minute.’ In today’s game, you can see it, they’re watching more carefully than any other time. People would be absolutely foolish to do something like that.”

I am prob one of the biggest Riot fans out there. I’ve been watching him play since LSU. And I am upset about this! I know, I know. Ryan isn’t making a big deal about it so why should I?

BECAUSE IT’S A BUNCH OF HOO HOCKIE. IT’S CRAP.

Because he’s hitting homeruns and he isn’t Fons or Pujols, he’s a roider? No. His homers barely make it out of the park most of the time. Come on people, get real. He isn’t doing steriods! He’s just improving! That’s what people do!

I’m going to go calm down now and take this out on my friend Matt. He’s a sox fan :)

Go Theriot & GO CUBS!!

UPDATE:

If someone knows what newspaper this article is in or can get me the article, that would be great.

Someone told me that the article wasn’t calling Theriot a roider which makes me feel a lot better. And I’d really like to read it but I have no clue which paper it’s in.

GO THERIOT & GO CUBS!

Does A Swiffer Count As A Broom?

Get out the brooms cause it’s a SWEEP baby! This is the Cubs second sweep this year (unless you don’t count the  two game series against Houston) but it’s their first three game sweep.

I am extremely happy with the way the team has been playing these past three games. It’s like last year where everyone is stepping up to the plate to take care of business. With some key guys out the others have stepped up their game.

The starting pitching has been awesome. Today Dempy went 7 innings, struck out 5, and gave up 3 hits and 2 earned runs and walked only two. One of those runs/hits was a homerun by Adrian Gonzalez and he’s been one of the hottest hitters in baseball so I’m not too worried about that one.

Talk about Adrian Gonzalez. That guy hit a total of 4 homers off of the Cubs pitching staff. This guy is ridiculous. I def wouldnt pitch to him. Most of the time the Cubs had a big enough lead where his homerun didn’t matter but still… if you have a base open for him, I would put him there and face the next guy.

The Cubs offense also stepped up their game. Esp the end of the lineup. The guys in front were getting on base so they could be scored (Theriot-2, Fukudome-1, Hoff-2, Soto-1). They may not have driven many runs in (Soto was the only guy through the first 5 in the lineup to have any RBIs, he had two). The last 4 guys (from Johnson to Dempster)  had a combined total of 9 RBIs. Crazy stuff man.

Ryan Theriot Note:

I saw on the tv that he has hit a total of 12 homers over his career and all of them have  been at Wrigley. But 6 have come in night games and 6 have come in day games. Also, 4 have come against the NL West, 4 against the NL East, and 4 against the central. ;)

Now we need face the Astros at Wrigley and I’m pretty confident we can pull some W’s out against them. I’m also exctied to see Wells go at it again. He looked promising last time so it will be interesting to see how he does at Wrigley. :)

And now the NL Central looks like this:

buildRows(standings_rs_nlc);

TEAM W L % GB
 Milwaukee 21 14 .600 -
 Chicago 20 14 .588 0.5
 Cincinnati 20 14 .588 0.5
 St. Louis 20 14 .588 0.5
 Houston 15 18 .455 5.0
 Pittsburgh 14 19 .424

6.0

I really wanna see the Brewers start to lose along with the Reds. I’m not too concerned about St. Louis at the moment but the others are still red hott.

And I still wanna hear about other people’s NL Allstar lineups. Now that one of my guys is out I ‘m all messed up.

Man, I had a hard time getting up today! Last night I was up really late waiting for the game to start back up again and watching the Dog the Bounty Hunter reruns. I <3 that show.

until tommorrow,

GO CUBS!

Officially Out Of the Dog House

Quick update before I hit the sack:

RYAN THERIOT IS OUT OF THE DOG HOUSE! He hit two homers tonight in the game and helped the team to a 6 to 2 win. His two home runs tonight bring him to a career best at 5 homers on the season. He previous best was 3 which he did in both ’06 and ’07. Last year he only hit 1 homer.

It’s nice to see him hitting again. I hope his hitting streak continues since he ended his 0for9 funk.

GO CUBS!!

I Think You Got A Monobrow On Your Face

Wow, I found the most amazing videos ever and I must share with you:

The first video is just freaking hilarious. And the second is from the Not For Women Only panel at the 2009 Cubs Convention. I was actually at the panel and it’s much longer. But these are some of the really good parts. Riot and Reed were just priceless!

Now on to business.

I am sort of ashamed to say that I had no confidence in my team after the first inning. We were facing Jake Peavy who struck out 12 in his last game. So I feel like a bad fan cause we won 6 to 2!

Fukudome! Woo hoo! He went 3 for 5 on the night. That was awesome. And Fons! Also 3 for 5 with two RBIs! Don’t forget about Bobby Scales! He had his first career homer tonight! Congrats buddy!! And Ryan Theirot… wait, nvm. MILTON BRADLEY! Hitting in his last six games and bombing one tonight!

Those for guys lit up the offense and Harden was fab striking out 5 and giving up one home run (that happened to be a 2 runner).

Lee was back in the lineup but didn’t do much. He really needs to get back on the horse. We need him to start hitting esp with Rammy out.

doghouseriot.JPG

Riot is still in my dog house. I’m one of his biggest fans but another 0for night?! Come on Ryan… if you don’t start hitting again then I’ll never hear the end of it. I believe in you!!

And unless I’m missing any… We have had guys strike out or ground out or just get out with bases loaded 3 times in the last three games. Something has to be done about that. I think Gerald Perry needs to step up his coaching game and help these guys figure out what’s wrong cause once again Soto, Lee, Theriot did nothing and Font and Miles weren’t lookin’ too hott either.

And did I ever mention that I miss Mark DeRosa? I’m a HUGE Dero fan and I was very upset when they traded him. I hope to get to a Sox/Cleveland game or even Cubs/Cleveland so I’ll get to see him.

large_mark-derosa.jpg(cleveland.com)

The game tomorrow is at Wrigley at 7:05. Young and Lilly go head to head. Let’s hope for another Cubs W! (And a milwaukee, cinci, and st louis L)

And tomorrow I have to get up EXTREMELY early to pick up my uniform because I start my job at the Milwaukee County Zoo tomorrow and it’s an hour drive. Yay!

goodnight & GO CUBS!!!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wow… it’s been a while. Finally school is out and I have more free time on my hands.

But do I want to watch my Cubbies with all that free time? I don’t know… after this three game set in Milwaukee.. PSH.

But unfortunately I am a slave to all things baseball. So I will undoubtedly go back to watching the Cubs day after day after day.

I am def wondering if I should kidnap Jim Hendry and take over in his place. How can anyone watch our bullpen and go “Damn, that is a sweet bull pen”? Aaron Heilman? Come on. Neal Cotts? Please. Chad Fox? Gone. Action needs to be taken. The only guys that I have COMPLETE confidence in are… oh wait, that’s no one. Gregg and Marmol both give me the jitters when they go up there. However, Guzman hasn’t been too bad as of late.

And I am UBER mad that Randy Wells first major leage outing was awesome but he didn’t get the win! Kids deserves it.

Soto… JESUS MAN! Rookie of the year? Hello? Where did you go? He was up to bat two night in a row with bases loaded and did NOTHING. TWO FREAKING NIGHTS IN A ROW. Um… is this going to be a pattern all year cause I can easily campaign for more Hill time.

My boy Riot was on fire! I didn’t get to blog about his wonderful homers! I wish I could’ve gotten on here sooner! I <3 Ryan Theriot…

except for right now. He’s def in my dog house. Yesterday he had some pretty bad mishaps at short and he hasn’t done anything in the batters box. I think he needs some more time with the “fuzz machine”.

It’s nice to see Bradley come out of his shell. Def need him to start hitting more. He needs to live up to the trade he was.

And Rammy? Don’t even get me started. WTF? More injuries? What is this? 2005? Four to six weeks is a long time. I hope he recovers fast cause he was seeing the ball really well before he went down.

Fons = A+

I think that as a Cubs fan there are 3 teams that you DREAD losing to: 1. Brewers 2. White Sox 3. Cardinals

Watching us lose 2 out of 3 to the Brewers was killer. I have a ton of friends that are Brewers fans now that I live in Wisconsin most of the year. I may just have to shut down my facebook if the heckling gets too bad. (Just kidding… my friends are awesome and don’t do that :])

Might I add that I love Mother’s day. I love the pink bats :) I think they are probably the coolest things ever and I think everyone should have to play with one on mother’s day. Our players with them today were: Milton Bradley, Mike Fontenot, Aaron Miles, new guy Ryan Freel, Geovany Soto, and my boy Ryan Theriot. I kinda wish more guys had them on our team. I’m a little disappointed.

Thoughts on votes for the NL All-Star roster? I’ve been voting but I would like to hear who others are voting for as well.

Early day tomorrow. No game but I have a lot of running around to do before I start working at the Teen Center and the Zoo.

good night & GO CUBS!!

———————————————————————————————————————————-
5/11/09:
GO HAWKS!!
GO HAWKS!!
GO HAWKS!!

I’m Not Dead!

I feel like such a slacker. I haven’t updated in how long? I don’t even want to count.

This one’s ganna be short. I am so swamped with finals and stuff. Only two more weeks and I’ll be out of freaking wisconsin and back to sweet home chicago!

I was disappointed to see the game cancelled last night for two reasons: 1. I really wanted to see if we could take 3 out of 4 from the Cards and 2. It’s one of the few games nationally broadcast up here in freaking wisconsin.

But I still get to watch tonight’s game!***

***NOOOOO! I READ THE WRONG DATE ON MY PHONE CALENDAR… THE GAMES ON TOMORROW :(

Let’s Go Cubbies! We’re playin great ball! 7 – 4 ain’t a bad start!!

GO CUBBIES!!
