YES.
mlb_a_hendry_576.jpg
This is ridiculous. The guy has a 10.67 ERA. Yeah, let’s add that to our bullpen. We’ll be high flyin’ then! He gave up 6 homers in 14 freaking innings!! THERE WAS A REASON THE DBACKS DIDN’T KEEP HIM JIM. WE DON’T EFFING NEED HIM.

Riding A High… Then CRASHING AND BURNING

ally boy.JPG
“WTF CUBBIES!?”
So we go in and sweep the Nationals. No surprise there. We look like a really good team. And then we fly in to face the world series defending champs the Phillies.
Damn… I def went in feeling a little bit better than I should have. I wasn’t think straight. Why did I think the Cubs could win the series against the Phils? Was it cause Ted Lilly was on the mound for our first game? Was it because we scored 11 runs the night before? Maybe. But I was forgetting that 1. Ted Lilly has a bum knee now and 2. WE WERE PLAYING THE NATIONALS. They dont have 88 errors for nothing…
So the first game of the Cubs/Phillie series was terrible. To sum it up we lost 10-1 after Teddy gave up a 3 run homer and a 2 run homer. He gave up 9 runs in four innings. Our lonely run came from a Ryan Theriot ❤ RBI in the 5th.
Sad day.
And tomorrow we have Rich Harden on the mound and I have no confidence in him what-so-freaking-ever (even though he was great against the Nationals). Maybe Carlos can pull out a win on Wednesday (he kinda struggled against the Nats). Sigh.
Even if we lose 2 out of 3 to the Phillies we will still have gone 5-2 on this road trip and that is a great way to start off the second half.
Until tomorrow… or whenever I get time to log back on,
GO CUBS!!

The Grand Salami

So today at work I played a little MLB 2K8 on the Wii.

mlb2k8.jpg

I played as the Cubs of course. I started a season and right away it wasn’t going well. I couldn’t figure out how to trade and they didnt tell me in the little booklet. I couldn’t figure out how to switch my starting line up and rotation. And the first team we had to play was the brewers. I said **** it after a while and spent millions of dollars on the brewers scouting reports and just started the freaking game. At first I had no idea how to pitch and Henry Blanco was not calling the right stuff. Quickly we were down 2-0. Finally I made it to the bottom of the inning. First pitch to Soriano, home run 2-1. Aramis Ramirez comes up a little later (after some terrible strike outs), home run 2-2. The Brewers get the lead to 5-2 because everytime I have a guy running to catch a fly he slides. And then they wouldn’t throw to the cut off man or they’d throw to a base that had no one at it. It was ridiculous. I couldn’t figure out defense for the life of me. Our bottom half of the inning comes up and DLee jacks a three run homer to tie it 5-5 (sounds familiar right? The real Dlee did that in tonights game). The kids came back from the field trip and threw off my mojo so I quit.

And then I got to come home and watch the real Cubs play!

sam fuld.jpg

I love Sam Fuld. He has done nothing but produce for this team in his two starts. Soriano who? Lou said he will be starting Sori tomorrow, that man better get out there and hit his *** off. Or Cub fans won’t be happy campers.

dlee.jpg

Tonight the star of the game was Derrek Lee. He hit a three run homer and then a GRAND SLAM. Yes, he had the grand salami. But don’t forget Jake Fox and Geovany Soto both went deep. The Cubs had a 9-2 lead of the Brewers but the Crew chipped away at the lead slowly and the final score was 9-5. I big win for the Cubs. I don’t think our offense for this weekend was spent on this one game cause really it was only one guy that did the scoring – DLee. I think we can muster up at least a tied series against them if the Cubs keep hitting. I’ll be at the game on sunday to cheer on Teddy Bear and the Cubbies! Yay!

The Cubs also aquired Jeff Baker from the Rockies. And he’s taller than Font.

jeffbakermikefontenot.JPG

I’ve never heard of the guy before today (and we may have faced him before but he didn’t leave an impression). The traded away Al Alburquerque  and Ryan Freel was DFAed. Why are we trading for middle infielders? That isn’t our problem. Are they trying to get more hitters? Cause we have enough of them (they just need to start hitting). We have Ryan Theriot, Mike Fontenot, Jake Fox, Aaron Miles, and Andres Blanco all healthy in the infield. And Aramis Ramirez will be returning from the DL as soon as Monday. So I ask again, why are we trading for middle infielders? We need to be getting relief pitching. That’s our downfall. Please Jim Hendry, get some relievers. And who will leave when Aramis Ramirez, Reed Johnson, and Angel Guzman are all brought back Monday (or at least they all can come back then)? I wish they could keep Jake Fox, Andres Blanco, and Sam Fuld but at least one of them will have to go. I hope they get rid of Kevin Hart b/c he was the one they brought up for Guzman, please please please get rid of Aaron Miles, and I hate to say it but I think Andres will be the one to go. Jake Fox can play both infield and outfield and I’m sure they’ll need him to back up Ramirez some once he comes back. But I’m not Lou or Jim… so we’ll see how that goes. Any ideas on who will go??

So that concludes it for tonight. I actually have to work early tomorrow and then it’s off to Summerfest to see my biffster Allie, fireworks, and hopefully Shinedown.

Until then, GO CUBS!

The End of Days

Cardinals land versatile DeRosa

Perez, player to be named dealt to Indians

ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals upgraded their offense on Saturday night with the acquisition of Mark DeRosa from the Indians. Cleveland will receive right-handed reliever Chris Perez and a player to be named.

DeRosa, 34, entered Saturday hitting .270 with a .342 on-base percentage and a .457 slugging percentage. He has largely played third base for the Indians and is expected to do the same in St. Louis, but his versatility is one of the traits that makes him appealing to the Cardinals.

“We felt that this deal provided us with an excellent opportunity to improve our team, especially from an offensive standpoint,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. “We feel our team has the pitching to contend, and if we can get the offense to produce at a more consistent level, then our overall performance should benefit.”

A University of Pennsylvania product, DeRosa bats right-handed — a welcome addition for a club that has struggled against left-handed pitching. He is in the final year of a three-year deal that pays him a guaranteed $5.5 million in 2009.

Perez, who turns 24 next month, is a hard-throwing reliever once believed to be the Cardinals’ closer of the future. In 29 appearances this year, he is 1-1 with a 4.18 ERA, 30 strikeouts and 15 walks in 23 2/3 innings.

DeRosa will wear uniform No. 7 and is expected to join the Cardinals in time for their Sunday game at home against the Twins.

Matthew Leach is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs..com

Jim Hendry is an IDIOT. He traded DeRosa in the first place and now he couldn’t pull the trigger to get him back to Chicago!

Mark DeRosa for Aaron Miles (twitter: myNASHVILLE) WTF?
We needed another infielder. Ryan Freel & Aaron Miles are both terrible. Infielders and relief pitching are what we need the most.
Best part, Dero was traded for Chris Perez and a PTBN. And we couldn’t have given anyone/anything better? (twitter: cubbiefans)
It’s a sad day in Chicago but maybe the Cubs fans can see the silver lining – it’s time to move on. (twitter: Adambuckled) No more “bring DeRosa back”, this love affair is over. We don’t have to hate and even some might dare to cheer for him.
I just hope they treat him well in St. Louis.

Liquid Precipitation Strikes Again

1st game of the Crosstown Classic – Called due to RAIN. Not surprising seeing as it was monsooning there. There is no make up date scheduled yet.

wrigley rain.jpg
And while we were waiting to hear what the call was going to be about the game, we got to listen to Ozzie rant about Wrigley… again. I’m so tired of hearing about it. All right Ozzie, we get it. You don’t like our stadium. You have made your message clear. The media hawks should just stop asking about it.
They also talked to Ryan Theriot before the game 🙂 (Just thought I’d mention it)

Today’s match up was supposed to be John Danks (4-5) vs Zambrano (4-2). But instead, tomorrow we’ll see Danks (4-5) against Dempster (4-3). Zambrano has been pushed back to Thursday against the Sox.

One of the best quotes of the night:
“What do I need to show fire for?” Piniella said. “I’m not a dragon.”

dragon.gif
The Cubs and Sox are tied at 33 games apiece when it comes to playing each other. The next game will give one team the advantage of the other. And in all of the games they’ve played against each other, the Cubs scored 322 runs and the Sox have scored 323. Crazy stuff how close they are.
Other little notes:
  • Von Joshua will make his Cubs debut Wednesday instead of Tuesday now.
  • The Cubs brought Jake Fox back up because Waddell went on the 15-day DL. He is on the disabled list to be evaluated and treated for a non baseball related issue.
play nice crosstown.jpg
So tomorrow we will begin the Crosstown Classic.

College World Series:
Anyone else keeping tabs?
LsuTigers.jpg
I am rooting for LSU, of course. They beat both Arkansas and Virginia so they will play friday against the winner of the Virginia/Arkansas game on Wednesday.
And CS Fullerton and SO. Miss. have been eliminated form the CWS.
Jared Mitchell: “What did the red fish say to the navy one? You’re blue.” 🙂
Yesterday I got to meet Mike Fontenot.

He was super nice. And he def cleans up well 🙂
Anyone see him and Micah Hoffpauir on My Boys? They were actually pretty good, haha.
Until tomorrow,
GO CUBS!

Oh boy Twinkies… Crosstown Classic Up Next

Follow me on Twitter

After the first two games of the Cubs and Twins series I couldn’t even look at my Joe Mauer tshirt hanging in my closet.

Twins took the first two games of the series 4-7 and 0-2 respectively. But the third game was ours… sort of.
It was totally a pitchers duel and the wind was blowing straight in. The wind was terrible annoying cause there were at least 3 cubs hits that would have went out of the park…  UGH to the Windy City.
Ted Lilly had another All-star outing, going 7 2/3 innings and even though he gave up 9 hits, he only gave up 2 ERs and struck out 6. PS – he walked 0.

tedlilly interesting pitched in the world.jpg

(don’t know where this came from but it’s awesome)
And so the Twins only scored on a Carlos Gomez home run and a Punto RBI.
Now to our bats… They have been silent. The Cubs were going through another frustrating slump. However maybe today’s game will be the end of that.
The Cubs got two runs off of a Theriot sac fly and a Geovany Soto RBI. The game winner came in the bottom of the 9th with bases loaded. That was hit by none other than my boy, Ryan Theriot.

Not to mention the Cubs fired Gerald Perry. You knew something was going to happen. I feel indifferent to it. I didn’t know the guy and the problem was with our hitting. Of course someone is going to take the blame and here (right or not) it was Gerald Perry. Von Joshua will take his place. This looks promising. He’s worked with a lot of the guys before in Triple A. Earlier in the year Theriot credited him with the home runs that were going on. Let’s see how this goes.
Joshua-Von.jpg
So on to the next series – the Crosstown Classic.
I have grown to dislike this series. Last year we swept the Sox the first series and then they returned the favor. And I have come to realize that the fans make this a much bigger deal than it really is. We face each other six games out of the season (we aren’t counting if there was to be a sox/cubs world series), SIX games out of 162. Why is it such a big deal who beats who? Bragging rights? Come on people. Like Ozzie mentioned, let’s be more worried about our team winning the WORLD series rather than the cubs/sox series.
It did anger me with the Sox players comments about Wrigley last year but it seems they have moved on. Saying only that they wish we had better facilities. It’s an old park, what do you expect? Again, you’re only here 3 games out of the year… deal with it.
I respect the other Chicago team. This year they are facing our much more important rivals like the Brewers, Reds, and I wouldn’t mind seeing beat the Dodgers. So for about 9 games this season I am not only a Cubs fan but I’m a White Sox fan.
One day I wish that Cubs and Sox fans could live in harmony. I hate being typed as an *** because some Cubs fans are and I’m sure the respectable Sox fans are tired of it too. Let’s concern our selves with our team and winning a pennant rather than bragging rights. Peace brah.
crosstown classic.jpg
So to look back a bit, I went to the Sox and Indians game on June 5th. I only went to see DeRosa and Woody. My best friend happens to be a Sox fan so we decided to go.
my indians shirt.JPG
I couldn’t find a DeRosa Indians shirt in time so I had to make one 🙂 It’s my DeRo Cubbies shirt.
me and dero.JPGme and woody.JPG
Before the game (we got there EXTREMELY early), my goal was to get autographs from my favorite ex-cubs.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

They came over and talked with us hand full of Cubs fans that were there. They were the nicest guys! We made sure they knew just how much we miss them on the North side and just how stupid we thought their trades were.
jordan and i in seats.JPG
It was a fun game.
I am going to see Mike Fontenot tomorrow. He’s coming to a shop in the mall where I live.
Until tomorrow (actually probably Tuesday or Wednesday),
GO CUBS!

We Believe… We Always Have

So it’s been a while since I’ve updated. Sheesh, I need to get on the ball here. I’ll talk about my Twins beating up my poor Cubbies tomorrow. Tonight I want to focus on one thing:

We Believe, The Movie. Directed by John Scheinfeld.
we-believe-banners.gif
They had a Chicago Premiere Friday night at the Chicago Theatre. There was an invite only showing at 7:30 which I did see Sean Marshall leaving. And there was a public one at 10:30. I was in attendance for the 10:30 one.
This movie was so fantastic. It wasn’t like Chasing October which followed another unsuccessful Cubs season. It was a combination of the history of Chicago, the history of the Cubs, the 2008 season, some of the players and more famous fans of the Cubs, and the best part of Chicago baseball: the Cubs fans.
I felt connected with the movie. It explained everything my life was about. I realized after watching the movie that I really do have a special relationship with this team. It’s something extraordinary. There are good times and bad and we survive them all. Best part is, Cubs fans return year after year to cheer on their team, hopeful of a new winning season.
The celebrity fans were absolutely hilarious! And the profiles of the players were great. They kept DeRo and Woody in there (as they should). It was fun to see the players views on their teammates and hear straight from them about things. I got to hear Fukudome talk for the first time. He talked in Japanese but he said a phrase that Theriot taught him, “Sorry your honor, I’m not from this country.” haha And they talked about the players feelings towards the wonderful “Go Cubs Go” song. (There is also a fabulous part about Steve Goodman in the film)
webelieveryan2.JPG
They also recapped some of the important games from the ’08 season including the 9-1 game against the Rockies in which we came back to win, Z’s no hitter, our 10,000th win, and our division clinching game.
Overall it really explained how us Cubs fans work. It was great to see a movie about us and our dedication to this team, our love.
I would recommend this to every Cubs fan. Every single one of them needs to see this movie. And if you’re not a Cubs fan but like baseball then I also recommend this to you.
Whether or not we won last year (and we should’ve, trust me… that World Series should’ve been ours… but we choked, of course), the Cubs fans return every year in full force. Ready for another year of excitement and disappointment.
I am Stephanie and I love the Cubs.

Randy Wells Can’t Catch A Break

stumped.jpg

Randy Wells cannot catch a break. The kid goes 7 HIT LESS innings and he can’t get a win. Ridiculous. And he got his first major league hit! Congrats kid!

Chi Cubs IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Wells, R 7.0 2 2 1 0 4 1 1.69

THAT SHOULD GET YOU ONE IN THE WIN CATEGORY. So what happened?

bullpen.jpg

They happened.

Lou called to the bullpen in the 8th inning. Wells gave up a SOLO home run… solo. He was only at 83 pitches. Sooooooooo you put in Carlos Marmol. Who then (with one guy already on first) walked a guy, gets a guy to line out, than hits a guy… yup bases loaded with 1 out. Then what happens? He walks ANOTHER guy to bring in a run. Than a sac fly to score another. Next thing you know, it’s 5 to 3.

All the while Randy is sitting in the dugout watching his first big league W go down the drain.

down the drain.jpg

Then our wonderful closer is brought in to finish the game. Did I ever mention how much I dislike Kevin Gregg??

I’m watching the bottom of the ninth unfold nicely. The first guy flies out. The second guy should have struck out but it was a wild pitch so he’s on first. Okay, no big deal. Oh wait… this is Kevin Gregg we’re talking about. Next guy flies out. SWEET. 2 outs! WRONG. Next guy comes up and homers… yeah, homers. With one guy already on that ties the game at 5.

I dislike Kevin Gregg.

lots of guys have bad days.jpg

Gregg’s bad day is everyday. Found that at http://www.cubby-blue.com. Love it.

We need a serious make over in the bullpen. Jim Hendry best be out there lookin’. Or else…

shakes fist.jpgNeedless to say we lost in the 12th inning.

I found this hilarious picture on http://www.cubby-blue.com.

carlos has a bat.jpg
Zambrano is suspended 6 games for his little burst on the field and then he misses the flight to Atlanta? Come on Zambrano. Get your act together. He’s probably going to be fined and he’ll have to apologize to the team.

And all these injuries. Really guys?! I’m starting to think your faking it. Miles, Freel, Harden, Ramirez, Bradley… come on now.

And for a minute there I was scared that I might have to see Mark DeRosa in a Cardinals uniform. PHEW, I don’t think that will be happening. Or at least I hope not. I’m still mad we traded him. It was a terrible decision. I’m going to the Sox & Cleveland game with my best friend on friday. She’s a sox fan. I just want to see DeRo.

In other news:

I made the mistake of watching I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here yesterday. I thought Dog the Bounty Hunter was supposed to be on it but I guess I was wrong. And Spencer and Heidi Pratt need to be eaten by a dragon in the jungle.

I had the game on my kitchen tv while I watched Men Vs. Wild with Will Ferrell. It was hilarious.

And with that I draw this entry to a close. Good night &

GO CUBS!

“That’s not Andres Blanco… That’s BOBBY SCALES!”

I went to the Cubs vs. Dodgers game at Wrigley today. And even though we lost, I love my Cubbies. It was my first trip out to Wrigley this season and every time gets better and better. Of course you have those idiot baseball (or unbaseball fans) around you sometimes but they’re at every ballpark. The experience for a Cubs fan (and even for those others that will allow themselves to experience it) is incredible. I feel complete after attending a game. I love this team and this sport with everything. This is what I live for.

Here are a few pictures. We were in the CF bleachers about two rows up. I am in that circle… can you see me? I’m jumping up and down. The pictures aren’t the greatest quality but ya gatta work with what ya got, right?

GO CUBBIES!

Rain, Rain, Go Away! The Chicago Cubs Won Today!

Thank goodness. The bats were ALIVE! Marshall was fantastic!

The offense lit it up in the short 5 1/2 inning game tonight! 5 different Cubs had RBIs!

theriotdouble

Ryan Theriot! I have to plug him in whenever I can 🙂 He went 1 for 3, with a RBI & crossing the plate once!

Hoff!

hasselhoff.png

No, not that one.

hoffpauir.jpg
He went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs tonight!

fusolohomerunmay26.jpg
And Fukudome hit a solo shot tonight!

Most of everyone had a great night at the plate. I ❤ it when we hit the ball 🙂

marshall.jpg

And our pitching. Maybe it’s only good news because we didn’t have to dip into the bullpen. Sean Marshall went 5 innings only giving up one earned run and four hits while striking out six. FABULOUS! Love it. Poor kid was disappointed when the rain came. I would be too pitching as awesome as he was.

And ya know, someone told me that I was a Theriot bandwagon fan. He said I only liked Ryan Theriot because he was cute. I got really upset at that. I have been watching him play since he was a freshman at LSU. I was 9. I don’t watch baseball for the hot guys. I watch it because I love the sport. When I became a Theriot fan I wasn’t like, “Oh, he’s cute.” Shortstop was always my position and when I got to watch LSU play, I became a Theriot fan. Not every female watches baseball because some of the guys are good looking. Well, that was my little rant. True Theriot fan since age 9 🙂

I hope we go out there and get another win tomorrow!!

GO CUBS!
